Education Queensland provides the services of Developmental Guidance Officers to State Primary Schools.
Sunnybank State Primary School has this service on two days each week. The service aims to identify barriers to learning and engagement at school.
The Guidance Officer engages with parents, school personnel and sometimes community members to enhance students' learning. Assessment, counselling and behaviour support are major aspects of this role. Referrals for this service are made through the class teacher to the Student Support Team. Occasionally referrals for personal matters are made through the Principal or Deputy Principal.
