Support Teacher Literacy and Numeracy (STLaN)

 

At Sunnybank State School the Support Teacher Literacy and Numeracy (STLaN) works with classroom teachers, teacher aides and specialists (Guidance Officer, Speech Language Pathologist, Special Education Programmer, EAL/D teacher and HOC) to improve student achievement and engagement, focussing on literacy.  This team approach aims to ensure that all students have access to the curriculum. The Student Support Committee (SSC) which meets weekly, is integral to maintaining communication among teachers and specialists regarding student needs.

While the classroom teacher manages the differentiated curriculum, the STLaN consults with the classroom teacher to support all students.  The STLaN supports teachers in collecting and analysing data. High achieving students are identified for enrichment programs. Students experiencing difficulty are identified and receive targeted short term intervention or long term support.
We believe that student achievement and engagement can improve through explicit teaching at the class level, targeted teaching in smaller groups and continuous monitoring of learning goals.
All intervention strategies at Sunnybank State School are evidence based. The teachers and teacher aides are provided with ongoing professional development and training to maximise the impact of differentiated, targeted support.

·         MultiLit, MiniLit, PreLit
·         Before school speech support (with SLP)
·         After school homework support (with EAL/D teacher)
·         Early Literacy Fundamentals (ELF)
